So the choice for today was Nice (as in niece, not nice). Once again took the train (had to stop at the boulangerie for a chocolate croissant) - so much easier. Did a little research and learned there is a tram (like the tram in downtown Portland) so we hopped on and headed towards the beach. Found the daily market and walked around a bit before walking along the coast for a short time. Decided to eat a "real" lunch (something more than a sandwich) so stopped at an Irish pub (we like a variety). Sat next to a couple from Ireland (what are the chances - Irish pub and and Irish couple) and had fish and chips (the fish was a local fish and cooked as a whole filet rather than chunks of fish). Also had mashed peas - quite good. Chatted a bit with the couple from Ireland - his accent was so thick I could barely understand him.
Walked up to the Marc Chagall museum and took the audio tour. Very interesting work and the way he interpreted biblical events.
Back to the SNCF gare to catch the train back to Antibes. Nice was OK but it is a very large, busy city. We have really gotten spoiled with the smaller town atmospahere (like Antibes) where things are a little more laid back and a lot less crowded.
We are now sitting on the terrace having a few snacks and some wine as the sun sets over the Mediterranean. Another great day in France. Best wishes to everyone back in the States.
BTW - we have now walked over 146 miles. Calves of steel!!!
