Beware of Walk 20

Today was hike #20 in our "Walking in Provence" book to the Abby of Senanque (this is the abbey that is quite often shown in pictures of Provence set in a sea of lavender).  The book gives no mileage, just says, "easy walk with no great ups and downs".  This must have been written before the trail turned into a rock quarry.  It was a beautiful walk though, with several 'don't look down' sections.  The Abby was founded in 1148 by a small group of Cistercian monks, and has a tulmultous history.  We decided to do the one hour tour, even though it was in French, they had a nice little folder for us English speakers.  We thought we'd take a shorter route back, since it took so long to get there, but after climbing up yet another hill of rocks there was no trail marker, so back down we went, and went to the original mountain of rocks and climbed back up.  We were hiking and on our feet for 6 hours, i.e., 11 long, hard miles. Following are pictures taken on our hike.  The one of me is just before I somehow tripped on a stump and tried to make Steve a rich (although lonely) widower.  Nothing broken, just some bruises...and I'm sore everywhere.  The knee is fine and I did not even break a nail!

We checked out the village of Gordes.  Very cute place.  Kind of a 'fancy pants' place though.  Lots of English speaking people and a very fancy hotel based in Paris.  When we got back to the apartment and cleaned up we went to the restaurant we had visited the other night, and had a big dinner.  Actually, my first really full dinner...that I wasn't really sure what it all was.  Very adventerous for me!
