We awoke to blue skies and beautiful weather this morning. Had our french breakfast (bread, coffee, juice, homemade jams and yogurt) before heading out for the day. Had originally planned a hike but decided to wait a day for the trails to dry out a bit. So we decided to visit a few towns and villages not too far from here.
Our first stop was Grignan where we visited a beautiful restored chateau. It has quite a history all the way back to the French Revolution. It had been almost completely demolished and was restored within the last 30 years.
After we finished walking around Grignan we headed to another village had seen from the chateau - the village of Chamaret. There was an old tower there that you could see for miles. We walked up to the tower but it was not open to view inside.
From there we stopped briefly in Grillon and Valreas before continuing to Nyon (known for it's olives). We walked around the old town and stopped to buy some tapenade.
Headed back to Vaison-la-Romaine where we sat outside, enjoyed some local wine and the tapenade, as well as visiting with some folks from Holland who were here for a ride up Mount Ventoux.
Up early tomorrow for the local market (hear it is one of the best in the area) then off to have lunch in a local town and restaurant where the farmers eat (with our new friends from Ottawa). The weather the rest of the week looks good - high 70's to low 80's - perfect.
Until tomorrow!
